The CCMIA frequently advocates in regard to pressing matters concerning the music industry including copyright law, regulatory matters, tax issues, and funding for music production and development. This includes meeting with and presenting to provincial and federal government staff and elected officials through Canadian Heritage and Industry Canada, as well as agencies like the CRTC and the Copyright Board.
The CCMIA also represents the interests of the MIAs to FACTOR, SOCAN, and other music industry organizations – sometimes as an advocate, and other times partnering with these very same organizations in areas like export development, copyright reform, and addressing the impact around opportunities with new technologies and new ways of consuming media.
